Mondrian Gold Coast: When Burleigh Heads hotel will open to public

The finishing touches are being put on the Gold Coast’s newest luxury beachfront hotel, with details about its
opening finally revealed.

The Gold Coast’s tourism boss has welcomed a boost to the city’s luxury hotel stocks ahead of its winter opening.

Construction of the 22-storey The Mondrian Gold Coast is in its final stages, with the first guests set to arrive in its rooms in June when the doors open at the Burleigh Heads development.

Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn said the hotel would provide a “significant addition” to the city’s stocks.

“The opening of Mondrian Gold Coast marks an exciting milestone for our city, adding significant depth to our luxury accommodation offering,” he said.

“With its modern, coastal inspired architecture, beachfront location, and world-class dining and wellness experiences, it sets a new benchmark for luxury stays on the Gold Coast.

“This significant addition not only enhances our premium accommodation offering but also reinforces the Gold Coast’s status as a must visit destination for both national and international high-end travellers.”

The hotel, the first built in Australia of the Mondrian brand, features 208 rooms, as well as 89 luxury residential units.

The hotel rooms include 132 studios, 76 suites, private beach houses and a “sky house”, which will have three large bedrooms, a private chef’s kitchen, bar and ocean terrace.

It will have several eateries, including seafood and Italian restaurants, as well an “innovative bio-wellness spa”. Bookings for studio rooms start from $749 a night.

Developed by accommodation providers Accor and SBE, it will be the Coast’s first new five-star luxury hotel since the Langham Gold Coast in the Jewel triple towers on the Surfers Paradise beachfront.

The June opening is more than two years after its originally announced 2023 opening date.

The hotel was announced in late 2020 and has been under construction since 2021.

Then-Accor Pacific CEO Simon McGrath said when the project was announced it would change the kind of accommodation on offer in Burleigh.

“The expansion of the first-ever Mondrian into Australia, with its location at Burleigh Heads, reflects Accor’s commitment to developing innovative, lifestyle-oriented hotels alongside our partner, SBE,” he said at the time.

“With the Mondrian brand, SBE creates destinations within the destination, bringing together regional authenticity with sophisticated design, creative programming and a lively bar and restaurant scene.

The two towers will be joined by a three-level podium which will include a state-of-the art fitness centre, spa, restaurants, and swimming pools, overlooking the beach and Burleigh Headland National Park.
