House hunters are dreaming of a life on the southern Gold Coast, new figures reveal.
Search data collected by realestate.com.au shows Palm Beach was the most in-demand suburb for houses, with an average of 4366 views per listing in the past year followed by Burleigh Heads (4322) and Tallebudgera Valley (4159).
Unit data painted a similar picture with Currumbin (2285), Tugun (2082) and Elanora (2075) topping the list.
The top 10 most in-demand suburbs for both houses and units were all at the southern or central end of the city.
Chief economist at realestate.com.au Nerida Conisbee said the results weren’t surprising.
She said people were attracted to the area’s laid-back lifestyle and picturesque environment, which extended into the Tweed region as far as Byron Bay.
“It’s always been like that for the southern Gold Coast,” she said.
“I think there’s a lot of young people moving up from Sydney.
“We can see a lot of the searches are coming out of Sydney too.”
The data doesn’t necessarily reflect the number of people looking to buy on the Gold Coast, it could also include those daydreaming about their ideal homes.
REA Group’s latest 2019 Property Seekers Report shows more than 3.4 million Australians classified themselves as “property dreamers”.
“These are people that aren’t currently looking to buy or sell but instead are looking just for fun,” Ms Conisbee said.
The report found one in two Australians surveyed made property dreaming part of their routine and 45 per cent of those were looking for inspiration on places they could live.
