A management deal has been inked for the Gold Coast’s first Westin Hotel, tipped to open in 2029.
Developed under a franchise agreement with M Property, the new-build in Surfers Paradise will be run by La Vie Hotels & Resorts.
The hotel is intended to occupy levels six to 25 of the mixed-use development at 3321 Surfers Paradise Blvd with 115 guest rooms and 23 suites.
A restaurant and bar, infinity pool and pool bar, fitness studio and day spa are also planned.
“This signing represents a significant step forward for M Property and reinforces our long-term vision for the Gold Coast as a world-class hospitality destination,” an M Property spokesperson said.
“Partnering with Marriott International to bring the Westin brand to this market is a milestone we are proud to see come to fruition.
“Westin’s focus on wellness and an elevated guest experience aligns closely with what we set out to create through this development.
“We are also pleased to have La Vie Hotels & Resorts appointed as the hotel operator.”
Marriott currently operates two resorts on the Gold Coast and has a further four properties in the pipeline.
“The Westin Gold Coast represents a natural fit between brand and location, and we already see strong performance across our existing Westin portfolio, both in key domestic and international source markets for the Gold Coast,” said Tristan Cooper, Marriott International’s Director of Hotel Development, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific.
La Vie Hotels & Resorts CEO Jerry Xu described the management deal as “a proud milestone”.
“Together with our partners, we look forward to delivering a world-class hotel experience and setting a new benchmark for hospitality on the Gold Coast,” he said.
The deal comes as tourism bosses predict the city needs more than 5500 extra hotel rooms in the next decade to cope with surging visitation numbers.
“We’ve got a strong pipeline of upcoming luxury upper-scale hotels that will support the ambitions of the city because we want to see and grow the high-yield visitor market,” Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn said.
