Demolition has begun on two ageing unit blocks on the North Burleigh foreshore to make way for a $510 million luxury high-rise.
DD Living, headed by prolific developer David Devine, expect the 2024sqm site on The Esplanade to be raised by the end of May before construction begins on the 25-level Burly Residences project.
Mr Devine said the demolition marked the end of an era for the area and beginning of a new one.
“When we secured two neighbouring sites with beach frontage on The Esplanade in North Burleigh, it was apparent to us Burly required an impeccable landmark design, and we are pleased with the result from (architect) Koichi Takada,” he said.
“I am thrilled to see progress on site and eagerly await the milestones as it is transformed into Burly Residences over the coming years.
“Burly has been designed in response to the premium beachfront location – a coastal glamour that is carried through to the interiors with the very best elements of beach living blended into cosmopolitan sophistication and elegance.”
The project will have a mixture of 101 units ranging from two-to-four bedrooms, plus a two-level, six-star resort.
More than 50 per cent of sales in the building have gone to Queensland buyers, half of whom already live on the Gold Coast.
Victorians have snapped up 23 per cent of the units, with the remaining 13 per cent, three per cent and 10 per cent going to NSW, ACT and overseas buyers respectively.
Prices start at $2.2m for a two-bedroom unit while the single-level four-bedroom penthouses start at $13.6m.
Total Property Group is managing the sales process and said the “six-star” project had attracted strong interest from the market.
“The six-star amenities DD Living is planning for this residential building are equivalent to a six-star resort hotel in the world’s most premier locations,” he said.
“The amenities and facilities are world-class offering unparalleled lifestyle for the sophisticated purchaser.”
